Gallery of Art and Design

Serving the campus and the community, the UAFS Gallery of Art and Design features contemporary art that challenges expectations, encourages discussion, and expands ideas about art and culture. Highlighting innovative practices from the later-twentieth century to the present in its permanent collection, it also hosts a continuous program of temporary exhibitions that examine historical approaches and new directions by emerging and established professional artists.

The gallery’s holdings includes work by established regional, national, and international artists. Of note are paintings by Bratsa Bonifacho, Wolf Kahn, John Marin, Keith Morrison, and Sammy Peters, sculptures by Robyn Horn, Jun Kaneko, and Linda Stein, works on paper and selections of graphic design by A.M. Cassandre, Delita Martin, and Alex Williamson, and examples of book arts by Ke Francis and Jo Stealey.

Collection and Facilities

The art collection is divided into two categories: the Gallery Collection and the Teaching Collection. The Gallery Collection is displayed on the first floor of Windgate Art & Design, which also features the temporary exhibition gallery. Art from the Teaching Collection can be found in buildings across campus, including the Fullerton Administration Building, the Boreham Library, and the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

The UAFS Gallery of Art and Design also oversees the Don Lee Student Gallery on the second floor of Windgate Art & Design. This gallery primarily hosts exhibitions of student work and  provides experiential opportunities for students to learn about professional curation, exhibition design, and presentation.

In addition, the UAFS Gallery of Art and Design holds a partnership with the Fort Smith Bakery District. The District Galleries by UAFS showcase local and regional artists whose work demonstrates contemporary trends. This Bakery District gallery provides another vital forum for community engagement with the arts as well as a training ground for UAFS students in gallery practices. For more information, see
